Whiskey, The Nectar of Ireland
In honor of St. Patrick's Day, we decided to follow Nagle's lead and set out to find a worthy, new go-to Irish whiskey. We came up with the cumbersomely titled, but delicious, The Wild Geese Irish Soldiers & Heroes. If you asked 10 Americans to name an Irish whiskey, eight would probably say Jameson. The other two would say Bushmills. And they wouldn't mean the high-end versions of either.

The Brazilian writer Paulo Coelho is a phenomenon. Before meeting him for lunch I looked for his novels in a bookshop. They were not shelved under fiction. The assistant directed me to the Mind, Body, Spirit section, looking at me as if I were a bit of an anorak for wanting to read him.
For fall-off-the-bone, smoky meat, head to the nearest stove top
The other day, I just couldn't shake the thought of slow-smoking some ribs. I was in the mood for Memphis-style baby backs, the meat fall-off-the-bone tender, a simple dry rub tantalizingly complicated with deep hickory notes, the flavors drawn out with a tart vinegar-Dijon mop.

Work ends and it’s off to the homestead, where a geography book beckons to be read for the test ahead — oh, what a dread! After a bowl of cornflakes, the geography book opens. Beginning at sentence three, the words don’t register and begin to blur.
